Netgear – N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN1000

Netgear is a large manufacturer of modems both for home, small office and large scale corporations. The Netgear N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN1000 is a good looking router with lots of features. It is aimed at the more budget end of the modem router segment.

The modem was easy enough to set up and connected at full speed (at the current location). It ran well with anything plugged in via LAN and with WiFi, when we first set it up.

Problems then starting appearing within the shiny black box. The WiFi would bare work in the same room, let alone one or two rooms away through concrete walls. The only way to fix this was to reset and then it would only work for a little while. The modem did get very warm and hence we believe this may have caused the system to not perform up-to its intended  capabilities. The actual ADSL would also drop out, most likely to the over heating or the hotter climate at the time.

Overall, we were not happy with this modem. It lacked WiFi range and stability. The modem was easy to setup and looked good, but was pointless once it was running as we could not get decent WiFi signals in the next room and the modem kept dropping its ADSL connection.

We don’t recommend this modem and ended up replacing it within a few weeks of buying this and now it is collecting dust on the bookshelf.
